Stuart's regular reviews and noise-making got Hooker's attention, who believed he was preparing another one of his famous raids.
He ordered the Army of the Potomac's cavalry, now under Alfred Pleasonton, to "Disperse or destroy" the Confederate cavalry at Brandy Station.
