Lee took the Army of Northern Virginia into Maryland in September of 1862 hoping to take in hordes of Maryland recruits willing to fight against the Union. He was disappointed. Hoping to lure the Union army, (that he felt was in great disorder and disrepair after it's thrashing on the Peninsula and at Second Bull Run), out of the Washington defenses and away from it's supports and supply to be destroyed completely, Lee embarked on what was supposed to be an invasion of Pennsylvania. To secure the supply line for this move, he sent Jackson and 6 divisions to secure Harpers Ferry by way of Martinsburg while Longstreet was sent to Hagerstown to wait for Jackson.

Stuart’s cavalry was screening between Lee and Washington, and reported that the Union army was on the move, and uncharacteristically quick. MacClellan camped his army at Frederick on the same ground Lee’s army had camped, and a copy of Lee’s special order #191 was found there, telling MacClellan just what Lee had planned.

The Maryland Campaign opens on September 14th at 8 am as Cox's division of the IX Corps is just moving to attack Fox's Gap. Jackson's forces are just arriving at Harper's Ferry. The Union forces on Maryland Heights have already been withdrawn into Harper's Ferry and McLaws is getting his guns into place, as Walker is climbing up Loudoun Heights. What happens next is up to you. Will there be a great battle, if so, will it be at Sharpsburg? Will Harpers Ferry surrender?

The scenarios are: South Mountain (All three gaps), Jackson's siege of Harpers Ferry, The Battle of Antietam, and the full campaign scenario.
